I found the lens / camera combination to perform far beyond expectations regardless of whether one is shooting portraits, landscapes or street photography - provided your style of composition agrees with the field of view provided by a 50mm lens.

From what I understand, the Sony-made sensor inside the A7r is the same as that used in the Nikon D800e, one of the best full-frame sensors around. Herein lies both the best and most difficult part of using this combination as the A7r required extremely accurate focusing and minimal camera shake. From my personal experience, I would not recommend handheld shots at shutter speeds slower than 1/50th of a second. Zonal focusing can also be tricky given the incredible resolution of the images.

Anything slower and a tripod is recommended. Take the effort to lug that tripod out though and I can promise you that you won't be disappointed. Out of camera landscape jpegs are shown below.
